Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi

Recently got my hands on Raspberry PI B Model. This is one impressive little piece of gadget that has replaced my mac mini as a htpc. i can pretty much do everything that i was doing with my mac mini.
here is my simple setup.
Hardware:
Raspberry Pi connected to my Vision TV via hdmi. Audio from Pi goes to my sound bar. one usb port connected to wireless keyboard and other port to 4 port usb hub powered externally. USB hub has an 1 tb external drive (ntfs formatted) with tons of videos, other port connected to an usb fan (it was lying around so using it to cool down Pi). Ethernet connected (not using wifi, but have tested with a wifi dongle and it works just perfect).
OS:
http://www.raspbmc.com/ : i used raspbmc which was a perfect solution for my requirement. some of the 3rd party addon’s provide you with live tv and also stream movies. Installation was pretty simple as running a .exe file on windows and it would setup the sdcard. put the sdcard in your pi and it’ll do the rest of the work for you.
note: there are 2 images that you can use Network (recommended) but you’ll need to have network connected to it can download the latest version.standalone image will help if you are unable to setup network at that time.
once all is done and setup, you can go over http://www.xbmchub.com/blog/download/ to get some 3rd party addons. generally recommended ones are
Here is another link that simplifies the process of adding addons.
Note: there are nice intro and tutorials on both rasbmc and xbmchub sites to help you configure the tool.
Good Luck
